Downtown Alva History...

Just about a ? block north of Snyders (Lots of dominoes played there after school) was the Mistletoe Express office. The Oklahoma city paper was dropped off there about 5:30 every morning. I used to deliver the paper and was there early to go to the back door of the bakery and get a HOT donut. WOW, were they really good. A donut and a Dr Pepper was my breakfast in those days.

My first thought when I read, 'Golden Crust Bakery', was, you should get with my Uncle, who has pictures of the inside of the bakery on his website. But then read the first comment..which is from my Uncle. I have many fond memories of visiting my Grandpa while at work, from riding in those big dough carts to sliding across the floured floors as a child. Thanks for bringing these memories back to life!!

The Golden Krust Bakery was located in the building just east of the Old Surety building. At least that is where it was in 1940, when my father was working there as a baker. There are two pictures of the bakery at http://www.geocities.com/nmfigment/bakery.html The Cigar Store building was, where my Dad hung out quite a bit, and was Snyders Cigar Store. there was a grocery store just to the west of the cigar store, but the name escapes me at present
