DoubleO Sims Grocery...

This has to be the store I remember. I was born in 1931 and I remember two things from that little store. My dad and I got pickled herring from a barrel and was that a treat! I can also remember that he bought a "brick" of chile. I just know that this store is one of my first memories as a child since I was so impressed with the pickled herring.

Interesting comment Bill. My Mother, Marie Fox Wadleigh, told me that this Store was the only big grocery store in town. Parker Fox her Father and brother, Glen Fox,are in this picture. My Mother told me that she thinks she was within one year of you in school.

During WWII when meat was scarce OO found out buffalo wasn't rationed. He butchered a couple of buffalo he had on his ranch and the town feasted for about a week. I remember going in the store at that time and marveling at the big thick steaks and roasts that hadn't been seen since the beginning of the war. Bill Barker
