In the written "A HISTORY OF ALFALFA COUNTY" by David Washington Pierce, 1926, his history of Goltry says, "The town of Goltry, located 26 miles southeast of Cherokee on the Frisco Railroad, was platted in 1903 by the Goltry Brothers of Enid. The town was named in honor of these men." The reference given is "A. E. Mosely, Cherokee; Cherokee Republican, June 18, 1909"
