The Old Opera House Murder - news article

The finding of the body of Miss Mabel Oakes, on the 9th of November, 1910, in a dressing room of N. L. Miller's old opera house, is a subject that is still uppermost in the minds of the people. George Oakes, the father of the murdered girl, has employed Mr. Tincher, a prominent attorney of Medicine Lodge, Kansas, to assist County Attorney Claud McCrory in the prosecution of N. L. Miller, now in jail charged with the crime.

Moman Pruiett of Oklahoma City, one of the most noted criminal lawyers in the state, has been engaged by the law Enforcement League to aid in the prosecution. The defense has employed Attorney E. W. Snoddy, Judge L. T. Wilson and Attorney C. H. Mauntel to conduct that side of the case.

The preliminary has been set for 10 o'clock Thursday morning, December 1, to be tried before County Judge R. A. Cameron. As this is the first murder ever committed in Alva, the case promises to be one of unusual interest.

Late: Owing to the serious illness of County Judge Cameron, the preliminary has been postponed. Attorney Moman Pruiett arrived Wednesday and will remain a couple of days visiting the family of his father-in-law, hon. A. T. Sniggs.
