NW Okie's Journey

Spring is just around the corner, spring storms chasing through May, 2015. As we traveled through Oklahoma, it was good to see the Cimarron River and the Red River reaching their top levels, over flowing in some areas. They have been dry for awhile so I imagine moisture was being welcome for the farmers and ranchers.

Walking With Sadie

Woof! Woof! The NW Okie is back! It's about time. Next time she leaves she said I could go with her. Hooray! Woof! Woof! By the way, What about these "Goldbugs" from Alva that will be swarming, making their return visit to Northwest Oklahoma next weekend (May 22-25, 2015)? Are they ... Will they be friendly or foe? I'm just glad I get to go with NW Okie so I can be her protecter.

One hundred years ago today, 18 May 1915, Tuesday, The Guthrie Daily Leader, out of Guthrie, Oklahoma, printed this front page headline a week after the sinking of the Lusitania: "Germany To Justify Torpedo Attack On Liner Lusitania."

1915 - Robbers of Burbank Bank Are Arrested

The Daily Ardmoreite, out of Ardmore, Oklahoma reported on their front page, Tuesday, May 18, 1915: "Robbers Of Burbank Bank Are Arrested." Fleeing in an automobile, machine turns completely over, pinning two as other one surrenders.

April, 1913 - West Virginia Civil War Near End

It was in The Day Book, out of Chicago, Illinois, that we find this story about "West Virginia Civil War Near End." It wasn't about the war of 1864 between the North and South. It was about the coal miners being denied the right to organize by the owners.

1913, April - White Slaver Gets Heavy Sentence From Hopkins

In that same newspaper, The Day Book, out of Chicago, Illinois, that we also found this story concerning a "White Slaver Gets Heavy Sentence From Hopkins." The efforts of Detective Sergeant Bowler, Paul Bennett would spend one year in the Bridewell, and held the finances of the city to the extent of $300.

50th Alva High Goldbug Reunion

When the Old AHS Goldbugs get to town (Alva), where do they go? What do they do? Will they visit the Cherokee Strip Museum at the top of the hill, on 14th & Maple Street? Will they reconnect with old school friends? Why do they call them "Goldbugs?"
