One Hundred Years Ago - 22 April 1913

One hundred years ago today, 22 April, the following article appeared in The Tulsa Daily World, 22 April 1913, Tuesday, with the front page headlines, "Will Pass The Bill Over Veto." Governor Cruce returned a measure abolishing state enforcement officer. Solons were getting even. Pet office of chief executive was doomed for destruction.

WWII POW - Karl Friedrich Koenig

Perhaps there are still some WWII old-timers who might remember Karl Friedrich "Charlie" Koenig was a POW in Oklahoma. Koenig said, "I liked the people here, I liked the way they lived, you know, they were open-minded and friendly."

In the News On 6,newson6.com article, by Scott Thompson, they reported that Koenig, who calls himself Charlie, joined the Germany army when he was 18 years old, and spent 2 1/2 weeks of his time as a POW at the Watson ranch, that Fred Watson (doctor, oilman and rancher) had down near Pumpkin Center, in Okmulgee county, Oklahoma.

As we traveled westward along highway 64, reaching the east edge of Clayton, New Mexico, we came across this historical marker concerning the Santa Fe Trail & Cimarron Cutoff.

Remember When . . . A Prairie Home Companion was a live radio variety show created and hosted by Garrison Keillor. It ran on Saturdays rom 5 to 7pm, Central Time, originating form the Fitzgerald Theater in Saint Paul, Minnesota. It frequently took to the road.

Indian Mounds To Be Dug Up (04/20/1913)

One hundred years, April 1913, sunday, The Tulsa Daily World, page 16, was reporting: "Indian Mounds To Be Dug Up." Professor Rogers arrived at Claremore to start exploration work back then. It was reported as a "Great Scientific Work," armed with chart supposed to show inner buildings of Ancient pile of stone.
