NW Okie's Journey

Hope you had a happy, safe Independence Day this weekend. Vallecito Lake, Colorado had its fireworks on the 3rd of July this year so it didn't interfere with other fireworks in this area. We got our regular late afternoon rain, but by dusk it started clearing, leaving a view of a double rainbow phenomenon. The image on the left is one of the earlier fireworks that I captured with my smartphone.

Walking With Sadie

At least NW Okie let me stay inside and away from all the ruckus of the fireworks this last weekend. But she did capture some smartphone time-lapse video of the fireworks at the north end of Vallecito Lake, in southwest Colorado Rockies, and North of Bayfield. See the video below.

101 Ranch Oil Company, Ponca City (Oklahoma)

In the Tulsa Daily World, 13 November 1912, page 19 of the Oil and Gas edition we found this mention of "101 Oil Company Ponca City, Oklahoma. This was concerning the Ponca City field, located a mile south and a mile west from Ponca City, in Kay county, Oklahoma, where it had its beginning four years before (1908) when E. W. garland of Pittsburg, Pa., made a visit to the 101 Ranch, and secured a lease on that large tract of land.

Reading and searching through old newspaper, particularly The Oklahoma City Times, 21 September 1917, frontage headline, we found the following headline: "Marland Lease Controversy Is Taken To Court." The Attorney General would stop releasing of oil land.
