1926 Castle on the Hill Yearbook – Captain Frank S. Wyatt

Captain Frank S. Wyatt – Twenty years of faithful service to his school and his country was the contribution of Frank S. Wyatt. His ambition for Alva and Northwestern had been ever uppermost. During the World War he won National recognition as a Director of Physical Training for convalescent Veterans. It was his privilege to conduct the Olympic Games in 1918.

Guy M. Lisk, A. M. – Professor Lisk (photo to the left) was a graduate of George Peabody College and had devoted his life to the interest of Alva Schools and was voted to be one of the best school men in the State.

Coach McCormick & Yell Leaders

Coach John W. McCormick -- In John McCormick, Northwestern has a product of her own handiwork. John is just one of us. And his loyal boosting of clean athletics and Northwestern has won him the respect and admiration of all the directors of athletics in this section of the country. McCormick won fame as the coach of The World’s Champion Basket-ball Team in 1924. His work at Northwestern has reflected credit upon the institution as well as praise to himself and his team. Under his guidance, modern managerial methods have been introduced to place athletics on a sound basis and to set high standards for the future.

U. J. Griffith, A.B., A.M. – A man more versatile than professor Griffith would be hard to find. He held his A.B. and A.M. from the University of Indiana and was an instructor in the N.S.N. in the early years, returning to his present position in 1919.

A. G. Vinson, B.S. – Since 1905 the Department of Agriculture had been under the direction of Prof. Vinson. This fact in itself was sufficient evidence of his remarkable personality and ability. Mr. Vinson had completed courses in addition to his A.B. at the Universities of Kansas, Missouri and Chicago.

1926 NSTC Yearbook - The Library

William A. Ranck, A.B. – Northwestern takes pride in the fact that “Bill” was a true Ranger and the product of her training. In addition to his official position as librarian he had full charge of the courses in sociology and was fast becoming the most popular instructor in the college. He received his degree from Northwestern in 1922 and completed advanced study in the University of Colorado.

Stanley W. Mar, A.B. – Mr. May came to Northwestern from the Alva High School where his excellent work as director of manual arts and as athletic coach had gained him recognition. His training courses were at the Graduate School of Industrial Arts, Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Mr. May made his department popular by being pleasant yet always requiring maximum efficiency.

1926 NSTC Yearbook - Music

The Alva Conservatory of Music - Affiliated with the Northwestern State Teachers College is the Alva Conservatory of Music offering the best instruction in piano to be found in this section of the country. The course of study is divided into the following departments: Preparatory, Intermediate, Teacher's Certificate, Collegiate and Post Graduate. Two years are required for most of the courses. Full courses in Harmony, Theory and History of Music are also offered.

G. C. Jackson, Registrar – Much of the success of any institution was the result of a perfected system of disposing of details accurately and quickly. There must be means of handling the hundreds of demands that come each day as well as the regular routine of filing and recording. So excellent is the work directed by Mr. Jackson that at any time information on file in the office is instantly a available.

Dean Sabin C. Perceful, A.B., A.M., -- Dean of the Faculty and Professor of Social Science. Northwestern took pride in her Social Science Department headed by Professor Perceful who had been in this position as Dean since 1915. Northwestern was the only Teachers College in the State which offered a degree in Social Science.

Few people realize that the yell leaders for an institution play a very prominent part in the school’s athletic engagements. Their role is equal in importance to that of the athletes themselves. Keen insight, good judgment, alertness and understanding must be embodied in the person holding this position. The morale of the team; the ability to win over all obstacles is the result of consistent support from the sidelines.
