Walking With Sweet Silly Sadie

Woof! Woof! It has been 100 years since Ireland experienced the Easter Rising. Researching the 1916 Irish Rebellion (Easter Rising) of April, 1916, and the Sinn Fein, an Irish republican political party active in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland gives us another view as Ireland marks the centenary of the Easter Rising against British rule amid fears of an upsurge in dissident republican violence.

1936 Plea For Democratic Socialism

Nothing has changed. We need a safe and sane social order for democracy. In The Gazette and Daily, York, Pennsylvania, dated 8 September 1936, Tuesday, page 11, we find evidence professed by Dr. Edwin G. Conklin that Democratic Socialism avoids the extremes of communism, fascism and individualism.

1949 - Democratic Socialism Was Best Bulwark Against Communism.

It was in the Daily Independent Journal, San Rafael, California, dated 24 May 1949, Tuesday, page 7, Dr. Louis Wassermann told members of the Sausalito Forum at the Alta Mira hotel, Democratic socialism was the best bulwark against communism. There is a difference between communism and socialism. It was the "Hearst Press" that tried to make them synomious.

1916 - Ireland Torn By Rebels

It was in The Lima News, Lima, Ohio, dated 29 April 1916, Saturday, page 1, that we found these headlines concerning the Easter Uprising in Ireland - "Ireland Torn By Rebels." There was a fight desperately in capital city against regular troops.

1916 - Hold Sinn Feiners

Researching back through the old newspapers archives, we found this article in the Fitchburg Sentinel, Fitchburg, Massachusetts, dated 24 April 1916, Monday, page 8: "Hold Sinn Feiners." Anti-war party organizers were arrested and told to leave Ireland at once.

1916 - Family Reunion of Houstons & Other Branches Proposed

It was in The Houston Post, Houston, Texas, dated 24 April 1916, Monday, page 2, we found this article concerning "Family Reunion of Houstons and Other branches Proposed." It seemed back then that Sidney H. Huston had planned for assembling the Houstons, Hustons, Houstouns, Houstowns and Housesits in the city of Houston as Prelude to monument to Sam Houston.
