NW Okie's Journey

Good Morning from this one year, "stage1a breast cancer" survivor (15 November 2013, mastectomy). I consider myself lucky that I caught it in the early stages with a mammogram September, 2013. There were no lymph nodes infected, and I did not have to go through chemo. I was a good candidate for taking a little pill (letrozole) daily for next five years.

Walking With Sadie

This last weekend we had a cold front come through our neck of the woods, dropping snow at high elevations of over 8500 feet or more. As seen in the image on the left, which was taken by NW Okie with her Canon EOS Rebel SL1, with 55-250 zoom lens, near the Blue Spruce Lodge, looking west towards the mountaintops.

100 Years Ago, 17 Nov. 1914, Tuesday

One hundred years ago today The Seattle Star, dated 17 November 1914, Tuesday, had the following front page headlines: Judge Gives Divorce To Woman Who Slaved To Educate Husband, Now A Doctor, Who Deserted Her. For a little while longer back in November 17, 1914, Dr. Carl W. Silverberg would have to endure the bonds which bind him to the wife he did not love, and who was not his social equal.

We found out that Dropright, Oklahoma was a little boom camp on the Canadian River that was later named Markham, Creek county, Oklahoma.

1914, Oil Man Killed At Dropright

According to The Daily Ardmoreite, dated Tuesday, 3 November 1914, page 7, there was an article entitled, "Oil Man Killed At Dropright." That prominent oil man was Elmer Thatcher, who worked for the "Prairie Oil & Gas Company. Anyone have any information concerning this Oil & Gas Company of 1914?.

1914, Rapid Growth Of Budded Pecan Tree

On the front page of The Daily Ardmoreite, dated Tuesday, 3 November 1914, was the following headline concerning a "Rapid Growth of Budded Pecan Tree." In seven years the tree had born magnificent nuts in Ardmore, Oklahoma. pecan industry made Ardmore great.
