While recuperating at home in southwest Colorado mountains, and waiting for Winter to finish up around these parts, I have been doing some spring cleaning of my greenhouse. Getting it ready for the last hard freeze so I can plant my veggie and herb garden.

In the New York Tribune, dated Monday, 7 April 1914, we find the headlines: "This Is Your Day To Vote For Or Against Constitution." The ballots cast on that day would decide question of convention that would revise or amend. The general impression is that Affirmative would win.

It was 95 years ago, 7 April 1919, Monday, Hungary Seeks Boundary Deal. Proposes to Gen. Smuts Meeting of neighboring Nations to Settle disputes. Vienna rumor of revolt. There were unconfirmed report there that Budapest Soviet Chiefs had been arrested.

Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1963)

It was 6:01 p.m., on April 4, 1968, (46 years ago) civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was hit by a sniper's bullet, while Dr. King was standing on the balcony in front of his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN. The .30 caliber rifle bullet entered King's right cheek, traveled through his neck, and finally stopped at his shoulder blade.

Regimental Order tells of heroic exploits in campaigns of 77th Division. Capt. R. J. Sprague praised. Member of Advertising staff of The Times showed great solicitude for safety of his men.

Pioneer History - Hurt Genealogy & History

Doing a research on the surname HURT, we find it was an English name with several possible origins. It could come from the Middle English HERT and Old English HEOROT, meaning stag, in which case it originated as a nickname for a swift runner.
