We have been on the road for the last few days since Thursday of last week. One of the Texas towns we went through on our journey to Houston was Fredericksburg. Unique little town with some great German food.

I hear from the web that NW Okie was in Texas for the last few days, expecting to do some research on the Austin Senators of 1906, when her grandpa Bill McGill pitched in the Southwest Texas League with the Austin Senators in 1906 thru 1907 before he pitched for the St. Louis Browns in September, 1907.

This last weekend while we were on the road, we journeyed through Fredericksburg, Texas, and took an hour walking around the Main downtown business district, and found the birthplace of Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, USN.

Short History of Pro Baseball In Austin

It was in 1839 that the city of Austin was established as the capital of the Republic of Texas. In 1869 baseball made it debut in Austin on June 29, when the U.S. 15th Infantry's team defeated a group of locals known as the Austin Unknowns, 31-28, in the first organized game.
