Still looking into the the December, 1941 trial of Kenneth (George) Root, who was arrested for the shooting death of Donald Lee Benson (1919-1941), at a luncheon held at the Rose Hill school, near Alva, Oklahoma. Chronicling America newspapers online only go back to the 1920's. Is there someone out there that could do a lookup in the Wichita Beacon, dated 3 December 1941 (special edition) for the shooting death of Donald Lee Benson and the trial of George (Kenneth) Root (11 December 1941?

It has warmed up a bit here in the southwest rockies of Colorado. How does your garden grow? NW Okie's li'l flowering garden spot built around a huge stump of a ponderosa pine, in the Rocky Mountains, of Southwest Colorado, North of Bayfield, is a work in progress as you can see in the photo image on the left. Territorial Round-Ups of 1894 In Oklahoma

In The Norman Transcript (Norman, Okla. Terr.), Vol. 06, No. 12, Ed. 1 Friday, 21 December 1894, we found some interesting "Territorial Round-Ups,'" gleaned from all parts of Oklahoma. For one of those, did you ever hear of "Howdy-do-Bill" that ran a cigar parlor in Oklahoma City?

December, 1894 - Frank Smith Captures Sutton

In The Norman Transcript (Norman, Okla. Terr.), Vol. o6, No. 12, Ed. 1 Friday, 21 December 1894, there was this mention of Frank Smith capturing Theodore Sutton. Frank Smith received word from Sheriff Defore of Oklahoma county to arrest Theo. Sutton.

Major Kidd Scores Officials of the Territory (1894)

In The Norman Transcript (Norman, Okla. Terr.), Vol. o6, No. 12, Ed. 1 Friday, 21 December 1894, we also found this mention of Major Kidd, of the Dawes commission, when Kidd made things quite lively the other day before the House committee on Indian affairs. It was interesting to some of the officials of Oklahoma to have heard what Kidd had to say about them.

November 14, 1910 - Official Accused of Girl's Death

In The Daily Ardmoreite (Ardmore, Okla.), Vol. 17, No. 25, Ed. 1, Monday, November 1910, page two, we find this headline concerning a Alva girl that was strangled, and her employer, a married man, held for murder. This has to do with the mysterious death of Mabel Oakes found (11 November 1910) in the back room of the old opera house, in Alva, Oklahoma.
