One hundred years ago today, we browse through The Medford Mail Tribune, out of Medford, Oregon, dated Tuesday, 19 November 1912, and find the front page headlines that reads: "Prinicipal Characters Involved In the Mysterious Gibson Case."

NW Okie's Corner

This week we continue with more information concerning my 5th great grandfather, Peter Thomas Hohl, born 1706, in Desloch, Worms, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, and died 19 March 1776, in Crab Bottom, Augusta, Virginia. At the age of 35 years (30 May 1741) Peter Thomas Hohl came to the New World on the Ship Francis and Ann, Thomas Coatam, master, from Rotterdam, last from St. Christophers, settling in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Those aboard the ship were Peter Hohl (Holl), Geo. Philip Clem, Johannes Immel, Jacob Kipper, Martin Bittner, Michael Bigler, Johan Peter Herbel, George Adam Koch, Hans George Koch, Samuel Georg Tossler, Johan Conrad Schmidt, Georg Adam Ernst, Johan Wendel Hornung.

1912 - Gibson's First Blows For Defense

This story concerning the mysterious case involving Mrs. Rose Menschik Szabo mysterious death at Greenwood Lake and her attorney, Burton W. Gibson, appeared in The Times Dispatch, Tuesday, 17 September 1912, page 3, headlines read: "Begins Preparation Of His Own Defense." Lawyer Gibson furnished a list of witnesses he wants summoned for his hearing on September 24, 1912.

Greenwood (Little Africa) The Black Wall Street of Tulsa

In 1921, Tulsa was considered the "Oil Capital of the World," and the black community was among the most prosperous in the nation. The Greenwood section of town was known both as "Little Africa" and as "The Black Wall street."
