Duchess of Weaselskin

My five-point Buck friend, shown on the left, came to dinner the other evening, 24 October 2012, here in Southwest Colorado Rockies, North of Bayfield. It was the night before our temperatures dropped into the teens.

What a magnificent animal, don't you think? In Colorado it is considered a 5-point Buck, because they only count the points on one side. In Oklahoma it is referred to as a 10-point Buck. Whatever! It is still a great view, don't you think?

100 Years Ago Today - 29 October 1912

One Hundred years ago today, The Evening Herald, Tuesday, October 29, 1912, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, frontage headlines read: "Senator Bourne predicts the Election of Himself and Wilson." An Oregon man, Senator Bourne, declares that Roosevelt had an outside chance but that Taft is hopelessly beaten. He thinks he will run ahead of Teddy in Oregon.

NW Okie's Corner

I have a good friend down in Houston, Texas I have reconnected with in the last few years, who has been in remission from Cancer for four years. Ellen, her family, and our family first met in the early 1980's when we were neighbors in Clear Lake City, Texas. Our sons became friends and playmates during that time. Like most friendships over time, you get separated and loose connection, but not forgotten -- only to find each other again thirty some years later.

Pendleton County, (West) Virginia Pioneers

As we continue our research into the history of Pendleton County, (West) Virginia, we find that one-half of Highland county was a part of Pendleton prior to 1847.

We know that Pendleton County was named in honor of Edmund Pendleton. Edmund Pendleton was born on a plantation in Caroline county, Virginia, 6 September 1721.

1912 - Many Matters To Be Voted Upon

According to the Tombstone Epitaph, 27 October 1912, Sunday Edition, in Tombstone, Cochise County, Arizona, there were many matters to be voted upon. The office of the board of supervisors was a busy place arranging for the coming election in October, 1912. The clerk was sending to every precinct in the county a list of the nominees, sample ballots to familiarize the voters with, along with blanks and papers necessary to carry on the election.

1904 November - The Muskogee Cimeter News

When I was researching Chronicling America Historic American newspapers in Oklahoma, I came across The Muskogee Cimeter, dated 17 November 1904, page eight, with the following headlines: "Many Indians Employed." The subheadlines were: "One-Fourth of the Office Force in the Cherokee Land Office Are Red Men."

The OkieLegacy Ezine Endorses Obama & Democrats 2012

You want to know what our President has done? This is important to remind everyone (even the anti-Obama haters) of what our president has accomplished in the last four years with little cooperation from a GOP (T-party) Congress, whose only agenda beginning day one was to destroy Obama and filibuster over 241 Bills, killing most everything put before them that would have helped America's recovery from the Great Depression at a faster rate than it has. This is why President Obama deserves four more years! - What Has Obama Done
