NW Okie did not stay awake for the late night bear and raccoons sightings this last week, nor did she get any pictures to share with you all. But we did hear about some rock throwing by some of the humans around here that scattered the raccoons away late in the evenings. Way after this Pug's normal bedtime, of course.

On hundred years ago today, 3 September 1912, in The Washington herald, Prof. William H. H. Hart spoke before large holiday audience, devoting his address entirely to the subject of labor from a historical, economical and political aspect. Prof. Hart, of the law department of Howard University, said at Glabraith Chapel, before a large audience that of all the various forms of the wealth of the world 98 % of the utility which measures its value for human use is the creation of labor and 2% the gift of nature.

100 Years Ago Today - 3 September 1912

One hundred years ago today we find that Labor Day was celebrated in various ways. Hosts of Toilers (workers) were enjoying rest and recreation. The Washington Herald, dated Monday, September 3, 1912, had the following headlines, "Labor Day Is Celebrated In Various Ways."

Clarence S. Darrow, Labor's Foremost Attorney

It was Monday, 2 September 1912, in The Tacoma Times, that we learn by United Press Leased Wire, San Francisco, that 40,000 working men and women paraded San Francisco's streets in the greatest Labor day demonstration in the city's history and it was headed by Clarence S. Darrow, labor's foremost attorney.

Bethel Lee Myers Obit

Another Northwest Oklahoman pioneer passed away last week with services held for Bethel Lee Myers (the husband of Marthesia (MARTY) Myers of Cherokee; a Knabe from Freedom or rather Lookout, west of Freedom; and now lives in Cherokee, Oklahoma). Services were held at the Burlington Riverside Church of Christ at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 with Jeff Keele and Lanny Jobe officiating.
