During the 1893 Cherokee Outlet Land Rush, 16 September 1893, there was a question in The Guthrie Daily Leader, out of Guthrie, Oklahoma, 13 September 1893, Wednesday, on page 1, the headlines read: "The Dalton Gang." Would the bandits raid the city on that day? All should be prepared for the worst. City banks were being closed, were consequently safe.

Would the Dalton's come to Guthrie tomorrow," was a question which was anxiously asked by many people in Guthrie yesterday and last night. Since the report of a week ago was noised about it seems strange that the bandits should visit the city when they well knew they would be given a warm reception. But still, outlaws's, as a rule, were on the mule order and their general cussedness may cause them to swoop down upon the city if for no other reason than to terrify her citizens.

The banks of the city would all be closed on this day, the time locks having been set and could not be opened until Monday. About forty men had been detailed to guard the city, and should the bandits come they would find the city was not entirely deserted.

A report came from Orlando the night before that the Dalton gang was at that place last night, but created no mischief. However the boomers were on plus until the desperadoes had disappeared.

Since the banks were locked the bandits would get a cold deal on that day.

The certificates given out at Guthrie booth Thursday, would be recognized. 381 certificates were issued.
