Ranger Album 1917 NSN History of A Class

Ranger Album 1917 NSN History of A Class -- In September, 1916, a promising class of sixty members entered the halls of learning at N. S. N. As every live class does, we met in the third week of our year's school days, and, under the supervision of our class advisors, Miss Crumley and Professor Vinson, elected our class officers; Chester Savage, president; Joe Heaton, Vice-President; Wardell Sturdevant, Secretary; Ruth Woodward, Treasurer, and Joseph Perry, Sergeant-at-arms.

Class Officers
President - Jones Graves
Vice-President - Luella Lane
Secretary - Myrtle Joseph
Treasurer - Muriel Matthews
Reporter - Marie Nighswonger
Marshal - Cecil Farren
Faculty Advisors - A. G. Vinson & Sarah Crumbly

Although we are very studious, we find plenty of time for our pleasures. Our first picnic was held in Beauchamps Grove and was a great success. We, not realizing any danger, although we knew that the upperclassmen were our natural enemies, neglected to be ever watchful and did not notice when an automobile drove up and its occupants kidnapped our class president. It turned out, however, that they only took him for a ride and after taking him to town, and he setting up to the treats, they brought him back to us.

On Halloween, the "A" Class assembled in the "Y" room to have a jolly time. Every one had a sheet about him or was masked in other ways suitable to the occasion. Refreshments of apples, pumpkin pie, nuts, marshmallows and punch were served. At a late hour we departed for our homes, all declaring that they had had a fine time.

At the opening of the winter term we held a meeting and elected the following officers for the term: Eva Summers, president; Joe Heaton, Vice-President; Linnie Callison, Secretary; Gladys Crawford, Treasurer; Myrtle Joseph, Reporter; and Jones Graves, Sergeant-at-arms.

As it was still leap year and our last chance for four long years to come, the girls decided to entertain the boys of the Class. We met about eight o'clock at the home of Eula Marling, one of the lively members of the Class. After the evening was spent in games, dainty refreshments were served. We are still looking forward to similar events in the future.

We must not omit the fact that the "A" Class has the champion girl's basketball team in the school. They have proven this by winning every game played with the several classes. We hope to keep this record through all our succeeding years.

Again in March, imbibed with the spring spirit, we met and elected the following officers: Jones Graves, president; Luella Lane, Vice-President; Myrtle Joseph, Secretary; Muriel Matthews, Treasurer; Marie Nighswonger, Reporter, and Cecil Farren, Sergeant-at-arms.

As we come to the close of the year, we look forward with great expectations to the time when we shall be Freshmen.
