NW Oklahoma Ghost Towns

This information was gathered by Rod Murrow awhile back and used to be on one of our "Ghost Towns" webpages before we had this OkieLegacy database. We have done away with the "ghosttowns" directory and we are incorporating those stories into our OkieLegacy eZine database in the next few months.

Many years back, the Keffer reunion was held at the Carmen park on the last Saturday in July. I recall mention of Augusta having been the wintering place for a circus. The name of the circus I don't recall, but the railroad seemed to play a big part in its location. My mother said this was the first time she had seen several "wild animals." ~Marvin Henry 2009-02-15 22:18:25
Wow - I'd forgotten all about this! I remember that I'd visited the museum in Cherokee and found microfilm copies of old newspapers -- but no reader for the machine! I've not been back there since, so I have no idea if they might now have a machine or not. (Might be a good project for some civic-minded group). ~Rod Murrow 2009-02-15 18:18:48
